The serial number is #184444. Scabbard is NOT included. The 1914 blade is fullered on only one side. Three companies produced these bayonets - Waffenfabrik Neuhausen, Elsener Schwyz and H. Steimer AG. Initially leather scabbards were produced for these but in 1938 steel scabbards replaced them. These were issued to Engineers, Drivers, Blacksmiths, Horse Transports, Saddle Makers and Artillery. Overall, this bayonet is in Fair - Good condition, considering its age and history. This rating is due to the oxidation / dried grease on one side of the bayonet, possibly due to improper long term storage? The other side of the bayonet is in much better shape. The press catch is functional with stiff spring tension. Both the pommel and guard are securely fastened to the tang. They have scattered scrapes, oxidation and possibly dried grease. Their finish is in the white. The two (2x) rivets securely fasten the wood grip panels and have light oxidation. The grips have light compressions and scrapes. The wood has started to darkened with age. The sawback spine is distinct and has light oxidation / grease. The right side and fuller have oxidation and/or dried grease. It is hard to tell the true condition underneath. We did not want to try to clean it and take a chance damaging it. The left side is in much better condition with some light scrapes and mostly in the white. There are no nicks or dings, and the blade has its original factory edge. The tip is intact and comes to a sharp straight point. The ricasso on the right is marked "WAFFENFABRIK / NEUHAUSEN". The top of the guard is marked with a Swiss cross. The right side guard has the serial number "184444". Scabbard is NOT included. This bayonet will be a great addition to your Swiss M1931 rifle, or a bayonet collection in general. With a little clean up this could be a great bayonet. Or, leave it as is! As with all used items, a light cleaning may be necessary to meet your standards.
